I am currently working for a company on contract (temp) through a staffing agency. I might become a permanent employee next month. I work as a Web Developer. Right now I am making 30/hour as a temp. How much should I negotiate for when they make me permanent employee? Should it be more or less? Thank you.

Years ago I worked for a temp agency and converted to permanent with one of the companies I worked for. During the hiring process, I negotiated with the company for my salary. I gave it some thought -- the company was paying twice my salary to the temp agency, so I figured my base wage with the temp agency and added 25% as a fair starting wage with the company. They accepted my offer without hesitation. After the quick response, I wondered if I had sold myself too cheap! But, remember you will be getting pay increases over time, including paid holidays, insurance and other benefits not available with temp agencies. |
